What Can I Expect During My Surgery?

Buckley Chang Eye Institute is proud to offer Customized/Personalized LASIK to precisely capture your eyes’ unique imperfections and correct them through Advanced CustomVue and WaveScan technology. Prior to your LASIK procedure, we will create a detailed 3-D map of your cornea’s surface using this groundbreaking technology. This information is translated into digital treatment instructions in the VisX Excimer Laser System (the laser that corrects your corneal irregularities).

The result is superior image quality and less risk of complications, such as night vision problems.

3 Steps in LASIK

The actual LASIK process takes only 5 minutes per eye and is virtually painless. If you are feeling nervous about the procedures, we can provide relaxation medication to help you relax.

  1. The surgeon creates a corneal flap on the outer layer of the cornea using the IntraLase laser (a blade-free method). The flap is folded back to allow the surgeon access to the cornea.
  2. The digital VisX Excimer Laser is used to reshape the curve of the underlying corneal tissue to correct your nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism.
  3. The corneal flap is folded back into place. It will bond quickly and naturally. Most people return to work the next day.

LASIK Surgery Tips

  • You will need to stop wearing contacts between 1-6 weeks prior to LASIK, depending on the type of contacts you’re wearing.
  • Have someone drive you home after the procedure.
  • Most people are able to drive themselves to the post-op appointment the day after LASIK.
  • You should be able to return to work within 24-48 hours after LASIK.
  • Don’t worry about eye twitches. The technology used in LASIK compensates for involuntary eye movements.
